Members Information

The Vietnam Veterans of American Inc.® (VVA) Chapter 227's (hereafter referred to as the Chapter) has three print communications modes with its members, AVVA members, and selected guests. The three communications modes are the Newsletter, the Minuteman alert and the Website. PUBLICATION POLCY FOR THE VIETNAM VETERANS OF AMERICA INC. CHAPTER 227 NEWSLETTER,  MINUTEMAN ALERT and WEBSITE

The Newsletter:

  1. The newsletter editor has the responsibility is to publish a monthly issue except for July and August and to manage the newsletter content.
  2. the objective is to report meeting information and pertinent chapter activity information. The newsletter editor decides on newsletter content and consults as necessary with the Chapter President.
  3. Veteran and national VVA issues and news are delegated to The VVA Veteran magazine and VVA’s National office communications modes.
  4. The source of a newsletter article or photograph submission shall be noted.
  5. The newsletter is not a communications mode for members to express an opinion on an issue.

The Minuteman Alert

  1. The Minuteman Manager has the responsibility for administering the Minuteman Alert. an email distribution for the purpose of transmitting information to the membership and selected guests.
  2. President or the Manager deem to be time sensitive and of such importance that it should be transmitted immediately.
  3. A member may provide information to the President or the Manager with a request that the information be distributed in a Minuteman.
  4. The Manager shall use best judgment regarding whether to grant the request. A denial may be appealed to the Board for resolution. The Board’s decision is final.

The Website:

  1. The Webmaster has the responsibility for managing the chapter website. This includes adding latest information on the 8 major components of the website. Maintaining currency of newsletters, director meeting minutes, future activities, upcoming actions, receiving and storing articles and photographs that reflect the history of the chapter.
  2. Officers, directors, and members may submit articles which address issues deemed of interest to veterans and their families.
  3. Serves as an outlet for members to express themselves regarding issues of interest and/or concern to other veterans and their families. It is incumbent upon the writer to show or explain how an issue pertains to other veterans and their families.
  4. a submitted article shall not contain language, which is considered offensive, obscene, or libelous. If the submitted article contains such language, the manager shall submit the article to the president who can accept, reject, return to writer with suggestions, or provide to the board for final actions. return the article to the author with an explanation as to its rejection.
  5. a statement to the effect that all byline articles reflect the opinions solely of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the membership of the Chapter, the VVA Virginia State Council, or VVA National Office shall appear prominently on the website.
  6. the Chapter’s Webmaster shall have the responsibility of enforcing this policy. Any disagreement between the Webmaster, president, and the author concerning a submission can be brought before the Board of Directors of VVA Chapter 227 for final resolution.
  7. Members are encouraged to submit articles about there military experience or something useful to members.
