15 September Membership Meeting

Join us at our Thursday, 15 September membership meeting at the American Legion Post 177, 3939 Oak Street, Fairfax, VA.  We’ll be having an “Italian night” dinner.  The full course buffet is $20 per person (cash only); feel free to bring your spouses or significant others.  A cash bar is available from 6 to 7:15 pm, the dinner starts at 6:45, and the meeting begins at 7:30 when alcoholic beverage consumption is prohibited.  Members must RSVP to Melissa Kalner by Monday, 12 September at 703-819-1480 or mkalner77@gmail.com.  The dining area is more than adequate for social distancing.

Our featured speaker is Colonel Danielle Ngo, an active-duty US Army officer with over 30 years of service and currently the highest-ranking woman of Vietnamese-American descent in the Army.  She was born in Vietnam and was evacuated by the United States at the end of the Vietnam War with her mother and sister. She has been working at the Center for Strategic and International Studies after serving as the executive officer for the U.S. Army Pacific commander in Hawaii and later as the executive officer for the U.S. Army inspector general. Previously, she commanded an operational engineer brigade in the Pacific and served in leadership assignments throughout the United States and overseas, including deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. During her commands, her units assisted with two of the largest and most destructive wildfires in Colorado history, and provided humanitarian assistance and military construction throughout the Pacific from Hawaii to Korea. She also participated in the U.S.-China Disaster Management Exchange in Kunming while in command. When not serving operationally, she has held positions as a joint chiefs of staff intern, the chief of engineer maneuver support organizations, and the military assistant to the chairman of the NATO Military Committee. Colonel Ngo holds a distinguished master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, a master’s degree in military theater studies from the Army Command and General Staff College, and a master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University.
