Presidents Corner
videoconference of the May 21 membership meeting

On Thursday, 21 May at 7:30 pm, Chapter 227 will hold its monthly general membership meeting on Zoom.  A few days before the meeting, we will email members the information needed to join the meeting.  We will conduct our usual chapter business and then turn it over to our featured speaker Col. Jim Sullivan (ret.), who will speak about his experiences on the ground with the 1st Infantry Division, “the Big Red One,” in Vietnam during 1967-68. His bio is below:

Jim Sullivan was born in Boston to a military family. He graduated from Notre Dame University in 1960 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the U.S Army.  His military career spanned 29 years, with overseas assignments in Germany, Korea, and the Republic of Vietnam. In 1967, he was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam serving consecutively as a Brigade Assistant Operations Officer, the Operations Officer and Executive Officer 1st BN, 16th Infantry and as a Task Force Commander.  He served in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1972-1975 as the Division G3 Training, Plans, and Operations Officer and as the Operations Officer, 2nd Brigade. In 1976, he assumed command of the 1st BN, 16th Infantry in Germany.  In 1980, he attended the National War College at Fort McNair, and retired in March 1989 as a Colonel.  During his military career, he received fifteen decorations — two Distinguished Flying Crosses, eight Air Medals, and five Bronze Stars, along with several other awards and citations. He is a master parachutist, ranger, and combat infantryman.  Jim currently resides in Woodbridge, VA.
